"Slate" dark theme looks like the best match for overall angband.live look-and-feel. Maybe this is something that can be toggled by default to all new users.
And overall going with nodebb IMHO is not ideal (it's fancy, yes, but has some UI issues, see below), phpbb looks more mature, polished and versatile, but it will require bit more work to set up.

I actually starting to love this one. But I will definitely make a new theme for it to solve everything that bugs my eyes now -
Yes it's not so mature as phpBB but it's a lot more modern with the use of sockets and such, I definitely prefer it.

Okay it's been applied, but I think the background needs scaling, also I can't see what I'm typing in the left pane.

Hmm.. From cell phone some sections requires more tweaking and color change.
