I did something in this run I've never done before. On DL 20 I picked up a Longsword of Lightning. Not particularly good to hit or damage, but the damage dice were 5d6! I was able to use this weapon from DL20 all the way up to DL98, as it got better and better as my stats got better and I was able to improve the weapon bonuses. Of course, the *other* reason I was able to use it so long is that I found very few good artifact weapons and none that were really endgame weapons. The battle against Morgoth lasted a long time, in part because I wasn't dealing a ton of damage but mostly because he constantly summoned, which was really annoying.
