Beastmen are fun to play. The random mutations are very interesting. On the whole I'd say I've had really good luck with them so far, but I just got the "I'm getting normal" mutation, so I guess I'll gradually lose them.
I shattered my previous cloning records clearing, this time at 47 minutes, with the old castle pretty much done at 1:03, but I dallied for 10 minutes sorting treasure before offing the Raal's tomes, so I technically cleared it at 1:13. Instead of dropping through Angband I've decided to wreak havoc on the top layer of the Dragon Lair for a while.
The hole in resist acid is annoying.

My hat goes off to you! I have to say, I am really impressed with the speed with which you complete the Cloning Pits and Old Castle quests. I tried your early quest list myself, but could only get thru the Old Man Willow quest a couple of times, and both times I missed all my random stat rolls so I suicided.
How do you deal with the inevitable hallucination in the Cloning Pits?

I must've had a lucky run when I made my assessment of my shopping list, which are optimistic in hindsight. I'm currently experiencing something in the neighborhood of 1/5 successful clears on Old Man Willow, with perhaps 1/20 clear while retaining the healing potion. At about a minute and half per try, the payout is pretty good for the risk. After that, the vault is the next big hurdle, which kills probably a little over half of my Willow survivors. On the upside, if I survive that, my cloning pits and castle tries are usually successful.
I guess hallucination doesn't really bother me. If I'm in the stairwell surviving the initial onslaught I pretty much know what the monsters are, and the only other time I seem to hallucinate in the vault is when I'm near the Bokrugs, which so far haven't given me any trouble.

Damn! Lost to Ancalagon. I think I made a proper character dump this time, I'll upload when I get home. I need the next step after the Old Castle... after the fun frenzy of quest hopping going to the Dragon Lair or going to Angband is very boring. If you have any suggestions on where to go next I'd be more than happy to march to whatever doom, as long as I have maybe a 1 in 10 chance of surviving. I tried that quest with the druj rooms of death a few times but never managed to come out alive.

Killing Fields for a Potion of Life? Actually, for the Royal Crypt quest, you can recall out without tackling the druj rooms... it's not like you get any reward anyway.

Ah, thanks for the advice. Next time I get past the Old Castle I'll give the Killing Fields a try. It would be nice to know what flavor Life potions are.
