Cant Find Anything?

What does everyone do with a character that cant find ANYTHING? My last character got to clv24 and several trips to DL18 or so and all I managed to find the entire game were:

two 'thanc daggers
a Defender
the Phial
Gloves of Free Action
Boots of Stability

I couldnt find ANY better weapons, or ANY armor of resist anything at all. No helpful amulets and my best ring was STR+3

Eventually I just started diving till I got killed by my lack of resistance...i figure I will find something that way or get my ass killed for lack of finding.

EDIT: I did get myself killed...by damned Hummerhorns in a wide hallway, after my teleportation staff had been destroyed, of course.

I've been having the same problems lately. I can't seem to find anything that is worth a darn up to CL20. I've been playing NPP 0.5.0 BETA-6 lately and the artifacts just aren't dropping. At all. Even Ego items are hard to come by right now.

"Eventually I just started diving till I got killed by my lack of resistance"...This is exactly what has been happening to me lately. It seems there is a point in a game (somewhere around CL20) where you might as well just throw in the towel if you don't have your gear in order. Either dive and hope for the best or start stair scumming (I'd rather watch paint dry) to get what you need.

My current paladin found his first dungeon spellbook (ethereal openings) at clvl 35, dlvl ~42 or such. Of course there have been about a dozen of mage spellbooks.
He also had a hard time to get any decent armor. He could'nt get even boots of stability. Though there were rods of detection and a rod of healing quite early.
But the RNG acts somewhat strange sometimes. ^^

Wait... that's a joke, right? With FA, SI, RBase (and RNex as a freebie), what more do you need at dlvl 18?

You won't find any _real_ artifacts with any frequency until you get into the 30's...

At some point you will just come to assume this will be the case, and just head down to 1600'+. If you do this, your chances of dying aren't all that much higher, but the cost of a lost character compared to one who scums for millions of turns is much, much less.

Obviously RConfustion would have helped . I wasnt exactly expecting articfacts, but usually by that level ive picked up some armor with basic resistances covered, at least. I found the boots of stability very shortly before I died (and of course the RNex is useless at that level.
