Feature reporter wanted

I noticed that "Improve messages a la NPP" showed up on the issue tracker earlier (http://angband.rogueforge.net/trac/ticket/101). I was just wondering who did it, and if they would be interested in more generally keeping an eye on feature requests here?

What I'd really like is if someone looked at feature requests, and summarised them briefly, with a link to the forum post, and posted them on the wiki (http://ajps.mine.nu/angband/wiki/). That would mean that it's easier for the developers to pick and choose what to implement without everything turning up at the feature tracker.

If no-one wants to, I guess I'll just have to keep paying attention to the forums myself.

This is code to attempt to compress the multiple messages you get when you e.g. wander into an orc pit and dispel evil.

Instead of 'The orc melts. The orc melts. The orc melts.', you get '3 orcs melt'. The disadvantage of the code is if that 3 orcs melt (based on the projection order), a 4th merely loses some skin, and then a 5th melts, you'll get 3 messages.

Note that this smartly compresses all the pain messages in a row to something human readable as opposed to 'The orc melts. <x3>'

I can probably help out. Particularly with NPP requests and Sangband (gameplay rather than UI) requests.

Don't think I'd be very good for the job you want doing as my mind wonders of in random directions to often.

Oh, don't worry! It was a nice suprise to see something appear like that. (I expect my reaction would be pretty much the opposite for bug reports.)

FWIW, there's now a FeatureRequests page on the wiki:

where it's easy to add feature requests if you have a login. Perhaps a sticky thread should be used to mention that at the top of the forum. Ideas?

No bug reports from me till there's a final version.

I never did get my head round C, only bits of coding I ever did were some primative little programs using Turbo Pascal for DOS and that was a long time ago.

i guess you have to view the page history to edit a page... i've never edited a wiki so i'm not sure if that's how it normally works or not

Feel free to post a new thread here, something like "Feature requests go here". Put the description of the process, pretty much like you did here. Then I will sticky it and probably lock it, too. (Otherwise peoples would post feature reqs into it.)
