Just curious...what terminal program are you using to run the ssh client? I had problems after an upgrade when connecting from iTerm2 via ssh to a screen session on Ubuntu 14.04, but eventually got it resolved after fiddling with iTerm2 and TERM settings.

I had the problem in both iTerm 2 as well as gnome-terminal. But I think maybe in both cases I was inside of a screen session.

For some reason, I'd added a termcapinfo line to my .screenrc to modify the ti and te settings. Disabling that line did most of the work, if I remember correctly.
