Cool Unangband: Using Familiars

So I've been playing Unangband for a while, and I've assembled numerous creatures (Golems, Scarecrows, etc.) and I've never know how to deploy them into battle, or use them. Nowhere does it explain in the game nor on the main webpage what is needed to use them.

Also, while I'm here, I haven't had any luck with applying runes from shrines. Can someone give me an explanation to the basic runes and what one can use them on, so that I can have something to build off of? Thanks!

They should just animate once you finish assembling them and become a monster. If not, it's a bug.

Your best bet is to apply them to an item which already has the same type of effect. e.g. Storm rune on a Wand of Spark.

Alright, I think I've gotten to understand the Rune system better. Thanks for that hint.

As for the Familiar. For example, if I find and pick up a "Completely Assembled Wooden Golem" and it goes into my inventory, how would I take out of my inventory and use it as a familiar? This happened with a Scarecrow as well.

Hmm... you shouldn't be finding completely assembled golems... only parts.

Let me have a look... oops. That's a bug. It is possible to fix it yourself if you want, but it may just be easier to ignore completely assembled golems.

Alright. Well, thanks for the help, I'll be experimenting and I'll file a bug report if I find anything.
