Question 3.1.0: Chests, am I seeing things?

I opened a Large Iron Chest, and among the drops of the chest was a Small Iron Chest!!!!

Is this a bug, or is it normal since 3.1.0, or is it something that could happen in earlier version?

I've been playing since 3.0.3, and this is the first time I see this.

It's not a bug.

I guess it would be a bug if it was the other way around!

Whenever I see a chest, especially at lower levels I think I'm going to have a couple of stats lowered and get around 100 gold to make up for it.

I can't help but open them though. Any chance of better contents?

You do realise that you can 's'earch next to a chest to find its trap, and then use 'D' to disarm it?

Oh right thanks.

I've tried that, but never seemed to find any traps playing as a half-troll warrior so didn't bother anymore. I guess I assumed that you only got one shot at finding the traps since they'd seem a bit pointless otherwise.

No, it's not.
When trying multiple times, you would loose time, which results in:
1. Buffs running out
2. Gettingy hungry / Light running out (okay, that's a minor one.)
3. Turncount
And most importantly:
4. New, awake(!) Monsters spawned

You can id a chest with ?id to find out if it has any traps.
or
You can pick it up, carry it around and wait until it pseudo id's.

I recently had a large wooden chest roll out of a large wooden chest. Is that, too, the desired behavior? I suppose one may stipulate that "large" chests aren't all of identical manufacture, and could vary in size enough that one might hold another. And of course nobody bats an eye at the thought of a kobold archer hauling one around during combat, so clearly realism has its limits. It still struck me as a bit odd, though.

There was code in Angband to ensure that this didn't occur - I'm assuming that has been removed.
