Character dump for a dead character?

Hi,

How can I (or can I) get a character dump for a character who died, if I didn't get one before quitting right at that time? Since the character is dead I can't load the save file in order to dump it, unless there's a flag somewhere I'm missing?

Thanks!
-C

You're mostly screwed, but a few variants will allow you to make a dump before starting a new character. FA and V do, IIRC.

Does it? How do you do that in V?

If you're asking me, then I'm obviously mistaken.

I've put a feature in FA and O110u where if you load the savefile of a dead character, it gives you the chance to look at the 'C' screen first, and make a chardump if you want.

So I guess there's no way to have the borg make a complete dump before starting a new game? I'm running it on my office's desktop and my lvl 55 rogue died after several weeks of playing. I was shocked when I returned after lunch and had to notice the lvl 2 priest runnning around on my screen...

In my experience, the borg will dump a .map file showing its state at death, in the same place as your borg.dat file.

The borg does have a save mode. It will save the character at the beginning of every new dlevel. Each time it changes depth, the game is saved. This can be a bit taxing when it is stair scumming or freaking out. I think it is the Control-Z F S option. Something about save_flag. It has been a bit since I looked at that code. Interestingly, you can also set a minimal clevel for the borg to save a file. That way your directory will not fill up with a bunch of clevel 1 dead borg savefiles. The clevel thresh-hold can be set in the borg.txt file.
