Be aware that Destruction will remove Morgoth from the level if he's in the radius of effect. As far as the game is concerned, Morgoth is "just another unique", except that a) he cannot spawn above level 100, and b) if you kill him you win.

YASD #3: Getting killed by Great Wyrm of Many Colours through a combination of: lucky damaging fire and lightning breath, a single moment of neglect, and some miscalculations regarding my speed.
Deposited my 2 potions of speed to avoid them being broken and recalled back to D:80. It is there that I pick up a potion of Speed and Scroll of Mass Banishment from killing a Death Knight. After clearing an undead vault, I get to level 46 and also find scrolls of *Enchant Weapon*, which I use to give my Scimitar another point of damage. It was then that I realize that the scrolls that I bought were word of recall and not phase door, prompting me to Recall to get a fresh stock. I also get another potion of *Healing* before I leave the level. D:81 contains Holhenneth, which was useless since it didn’t have telepathy, the plate mail Soulkeeper’ that also got left behind since its attributes were not as good as my armors at my home (and didn’t grant poison resistance) and a Potion of Life. D:82 had Ji Indur Dawndeath, who dropped the Leather Shield of Celegorm which was another inferior shield at this point. I ran into a Great Wyrm of Many Colours who breathed lightning on me, which didn’t trigger any low hitpoint warnings (I admittedly didn’t see how much damage that I took from the first lightning breath that I took-I usually watch the HP like a hawk, so I really didn’t know how I didn’t see it there), and somehow messed up my speed calculations on running away and ended up getting killed by a lucky high-damaging fire breath. So yeah, I seriously fouled up and died to a cheap breath due to my one moment of neglect. I’m DEFINITELY adjusting the low hitpoint warning to 50% to avoid screw-ups like that from happening ever again. Updated the ladder, and I’ll begin my next character soon enough. Seriously, it was my fault for miscalculating my speed, as I really would have teleported had I paid more attention. Textbook definition of an epic, epic fail. EDIT: Well Jesus FREAKING CHRIST. I don't even have the flag of my death. I exported the file somehow, but I must have selected no when asked if I wanted to overwrite the file. So now I can't even show you the final log. Just shows how sloppy I've really gotten. You'll just have to take my word when I say that I got taken down to ~ -82 HP from the fire breath. Not making another character for another couple of days due to the apparently serious sloppiness of my playing. If I can't even properly export the final death flag, then I'm definitely in no condition to win any games in the near future. Last edited by wizard44; April 4, 2019 at 10:57. |

Sorry to hear that
![]() I dont know what system you are playing on, but is your option to colour code low hp checked ? Personally I dont pay much attention to text warnings anymore since my @ turns red when low on health. Quote:

Too bad. Still not a good run though!

Yeah, not only because of my sloppiness, but also because I need to work on my Ph.D. dissertation. It's crunch time right now. And yeah, Thraalbee, this character had too many screw-ups and poor judgment decisions for that guy to have a chance. |

Pity. :/ Don't take it too bad, though; this kind of things happen. Angband at deep levels is brutal, and something like this was likely to happen sooner or later. We all lose high-level characters, and even more when one is not an expert player. You learned a lot about the game from this run though; the next time will be easier.
