I fear I have a similar problem to daniel santos, below. I posted a patch to http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?t=2411 and got the moderator approval message, but it has not yet appeared or (to my knowledge) been rejected. Thanks.

Hello there. I registered and posted a new thread under Vanilla on Sunday and I have two problems:

a.) It gave me a message that my post wouldn't appear until moderator approval *but* it was only on the screen for about a second, so I couldn't read it.

b.) My message has yet to appear

So mostly, can you please rescue my message from the depths of the bit bucket (I was talking about Pixies in Angband, it's a patch set) and then perhaps can you alter the code to disable the redirect when the post requires moderator approval so I don't have to click "back" 5 times in order to read the entierty of the message? I don't know php or even vBulletin, so I can't help you much there, sorry.

    Thank you
    Daniel

Edit: it's Wednesday now and I'm feeeling very sad, lonely, and neglected ... *sniff*
Seroiously, I know we all have lives, but if you can look into this soon, I would appreciate it. I'm hoping for some useful community input & critique of a mod I'm proposing to Vanilla Angband and there are some finer points of which I feel I lack the experience to properly assess if it is correctly ballanced or not.

    Hi pav,

We were wondering if you could add Sil to the list of variants on the site?

The website to link to is http://www.amirrorclear.net/flowers/game/sil/index.html

    I've written a description, below.

    Thanks in advance!

Sil gives you the chance to set out on the most epic of all the adventures Tolkien wrote about. As Beren and Luthien did, you can dive into the stronghold of Angband, in the far North of Middle-earth in the First Age of the world, on a quest to steal a Silmaril from the iron crown of the black enemy, Morgoth.

    Major features:
    - Sil moves away from the creatures and magic of generic fantasty, instead recreating the world Tolkien imagined.
    - An exciting and carefully balanced combat system, without instant escapes, gives great tactical depth to combat.
    - The game is built upon elegant rules which are explained to players in the manual.
    - A rich space of possible character builds to explore.
    - A clean and accessible control system.
    - Sil is designed to be dangerous and challenging, but it is also a much shorter game than most Angband variants.

I've made a post on the Sil 1.0.1 thread letting you know how the new version does scores and how you could potentially slot in the 1.0 characters too, though I don't know exactly how you work your magic, so I don't know how hard it would be. Just do what you think has the right balance between faithfulness to where the 1.0 characters should get in the ladder and the amount of work it would take for you.

Hi Pav, I was wondering if it is possible to allow uploading screenshots and character dumps for my new variant Sil. If there is anything you need to know in order to do so, just ask. It occurred to me that it might be tricky to work out how to sort them, as there is a canonical ordering used for each user's score table but it is complicated (it is basically the deeper the current depth the better, followed by the fewer turns taken, the better, but with some complications for the endgame). Do I need to calculate some 'score' number where the higher the better and then add that to the dumps?

Also, I'm happy to send you a character dump and a screenshot to test.
